Minnie

I'm determined not to let this blog shut down during term time so here are a few Minnie pics

There.
Have a happy Sunday. : )
The beautiful and ethereal music is from one of the guys from Sigur Ros.

drive by shooting

I so badly wanted to stay and linger.
Take my shoes off.
Carve out a little seat for my bum in the sparkling Strandfontein sand.
Inhale the winter sharp sea air.
But schoolwork was looming (not that I've actually started it yet) and I wanted to get home early.
So I got out, tried to be economical with my shots...sort of doing a 360 in about five minutes..and then got back in the car and toodled off home.
This captures the mood perfectly I think.

A few more in Flickr.

worth a thousand

blah blah

blah
oh so blah
Lol...the blahs are what I usually do when I draft a blog post.
I upload the pics first, making sure there's space for the text which comes later. But this morning I feel like I should leave it in.
It's not that the morning at the Helderberg Nature Reserve was blah in a boring way. Absolutely not! The air was crisp and filled with chirping birds and ribbitting frogs and it was bucolic and lovely.
It's just that despite all the prettiness I couldn't get into any kind of photo groove. It doesn't help that I'm not into taking pics of flowers...or mountains and lakes. I stalked a few toddlers with their grannies but the savvy grans soon cottoned on and whipped their charges off to get milkshakes at the restaurant.

And school starts on Monday.
Blah. Bleh.

company

I had an audience while I made supper tonight.

Max was terribly interested in the mince, which is the blurry pink bit in the foreground, (believe me, you don't want to see raw mince in focus)....and when the mince was in the pot he did his now predictable and totally charming I'll-roll-on-my-back-while-you-tickle-my-tummy-with-your-foot act.

Like pretty much most of the male population out there, huh?
Love the little bugger.

three weaknesses

I missed an opportunity to have lunch in Stellenbosch with Sam and Tina on Wednesday thanks to a kaput ignition module (sigh) but we caught up on Thursday which was so wonderful.
So much to talk about, so little time....but at least they got to meet the little shits!
Sam gave me a bag of the most divine handmade chocs from Huguenot Chocolates (I'm assuming, Sam, correct me if I'm wrong!)- in Franschhoek, and kept some for a bit of a photo shoot yesterday.

So I set everything up, took a few test pics, poured the espresso...took some leisurely sips and shots thinking.."Hmm, this is the life" when all of a sudden I realised the chocolates were melting!
So I put the camera down, licked the melted gooiness off the cup, saucer and fingers and polished the lot off.
Hmmm...thanks Sam!
I couldn't get Stellies out my head though, so on Thursday my mom and I went through and wandered the streets, taking photos of doorways and people and the shadows of bare oak trees stretched across the old historic buildings. Have a mentioned how much I love that town?

sew what?

I might have mentioned a while ago that one of the few things on my bucket list ( I really must work on that at some stage- yawn) is a quilt. Making my own one. Yes, snigger all you like... I just don't see how being yanked, upside down, on a big piece of elastic over a river and under a bridge can be fun, okay?

I had ordered a simple pattern online and bought the material so when I happened to be stranded without a car a few weekends ago I decided to make a go of it. It was  a soggy long weekend, raining non-stop,perfect for hours and hours of measuring and cutting......and more measuring.....and more cutting. Endless measuring and cutting. You get the picture.
But it wasn't that bad, somehow. I put a chilled out compilation on the iPod and sort of went into the Zone.

By day three the top was finished and klaar.
As you can see, the cats showed remarkable restraint during the whole process.
Not much of this sort of behaviour this time. Aw look how cute they were!

But every time I put pieces down on the floor to look at certain colour combinations or to see what textures worked best together (I love this part and will happily go through hours and hours of measuring and cutting to get to it!!) they plonked themselves down on the fabric. As if to say, " Yes. We approve."
As if they suspect it will become their blankie. Hmmph! How could they think such a thing!? ;-P

Oh yes...he's trying to eat the pins.
Yep. Quilting. My kind of adventure sport.

Ok, so it's not quite finished yet. It's now been sandwiched - that means the batting's in place, the top and bottom layer are where they should be and everything's secured with lots and lots of safety pins.
And now......now I have to sew the bloody thing!!
With fancy stitches and patterns and stuff and I have no idea if a.) my machine can handle it and b.) I can handle it.
Lol.
Watch this space.

Have a nice day now!

bff's and sunsets

Ack.
I have a bad case of blogger's guilt.
Why I cannot just post the pics sitting in my To Blog Folder I have no idea. But there they are, sitting on my desktop - many, many images cataloging the past few months and now it seems wrong just dumping them all  here in one spammy pile. So I plan on dispensing them bit by bit.
With or without an accompaniment of words.
Debs came to stay a few weekends ago.
Conversation is always so easy with Debs that it's hard to stop once we really get into it.
A genuine bff (we go right back to primary school), Debs and I will talk about anything and everything....work woes, singledom, our cats,  making stuff and learning how to make other stuff (usually twinkly, colourful bits), movies, music, tv shows and anything else that might give the impression that we were still seventeen and sitting in our green PHS uniforms on the steps of the school quad at break.
A genuine BFF. : )
So when we did manage to find a break in conversation (soon after we realised that swapping cat anecdotes made us sound like the gushy mothers we always sneer at) we grabbed our cameras and  raced off into the setting sun to try and capture some of the magic of a crisp and clear winter's evening in the Cape. It was golden.
After the sun set below the houses in Somerset West we dashed off to the beach to capture the magic there but that was a bit underwhelming. Goes to show...not every beach sunset is all that.
There might be a life lesson in there somewhere.

Pics soon up in Flickr.
