1.1.10

hello 2010

Last year this time I was on the beach celebrating the New Year with the rest of Cape Town.
Not happening today as the wind's howling.
Instead, I'm going to wash paw prints off walls later on.
And think about all that stuff one is supposed to think about on the first day of a new decade.
Like.... is this the year I will finally buy a stove? And will I learn the secret to keeping my indoor plants alive? And, will I ever finish the canvas primed and propped up against the wall in my lounge?
And *gasp* will I get around to finishing my quilt!? Oh please let it be so!

Anyway, enough of that heavy navel-gazing stuff.

Here are some pics from the so-early-we-didn't-even-brush-our-teeth walk that Debs and I did on the beach the other morning. It was blustery and overcast as most mornings have been lately. And bloody freezing.
Poor tourists.

Another gratuitous Max pic.

Happy New Year everyone!
Here's to a year filled with good times, great health
and peace.
Let there be lots of peace.

shooting the breeze with debs & charleen

I tried to show two Nikonites how to free themselves from the chains of Auto yesterday.
I think it went well.
They were pretty compliant and didn't complain (not within my hearing anyway!) and seemed to get into the swing of things.
See?
Totally into it.

Thanks for a great weekend girls!  ;-P

bff's and sunsets

Ack.
I have a bad case of blogger's guilt.
Why I cannot just post the pics sitting in my To Blog Folder I have no idea. But there they are, sitting on my desktop - many, many images cataloging the past few months and now it seems wrong just dumping them all  here in one spammy pile. So I plan on dispensing them bit by bit.
With or without an accompaniment of words.
Debs came to stay a few weekends ago.
Conversation is always so easy with Debs that it's hard to stop once we really get into it.
A genuine bff (we go right back to primary school), Debs and I will talk about anything and everything....work woes, singledom, our cats,  making stuff and learning how to make other stuff (usually twinkly, colourful bits), movies, music, tv shows and anything else that might give the impression that we were still seventeen and sitting in our green PHS uniforms on the steps of the school quad at break.
A genuine BFF. : )
So when we did manage to find a break in conversation (soon after we realised that swapping cat anecdotes made us sound like the gushy mothers we always sneer at) we grabbed our cameras and  raced off into the setting sun to try and capture some of the magic of a crisp and clear winter's evening in the Cape. It was golden.
After the sun set below the houses in Somerset West we dashed off to the beach to capture the magic there but that was a bit underwhelming. Goes to show...not every beach sunset is all that.
There might be a life lesson in there somewhere.

Pics soon up in Flickr.

old friends

Ant turned 40 last week.

 We go way back.

Ant at 3.
I'm the blonde on the right.
Yep, it was straight and blonde before the hormones kicked in.
I wonder what those rather big pink cookie-type things are?

Anthony lived opposite us in a huge Frank Lloyd Wright-style house right on the water's edge. It was his house we'd go to to catch fish, launch our boats and stand on the balcony to watch the pelicans out on the vlei. From fishing and sailing and building tree houses in the middle of the bush to playing and listening to music when we grew older. A wonderful childhood it was.
Ant at 40.
I'm really thrilled with the way these pics of Ant's 40th came out. No flash, no tripod (like I'm ever going to be using one in a pub!) -just the highest ISO I could get and a bit of fiddling with the shutter speed.

ETA- Just realised there's a shocking lack of photographs of Zeekoevlei. What a shame. And hilarious that people are still spelling it incorrectly!
