pretty things

Sam gave me these for Christmas. Aren't they beautiful?

By the way- it's cooled down a touch! Woot!

three little pots

So I spent the last few days of my hols redecorating. I learned that my little passage only needs three (ok, that was a bit of a push- next time I'll do it with four) little 250ml test pots of paint, coming to a grand total of R70. As the smallest tin I could have them mix up was 5litres at R450 a pop allow me to do my Jack Black stick-it-to-the-man pose. Heee!

Bummer that all three pics have a slightly different hue but the first pic is pretty acurate. The colour is Plascon's 'Bottlenose' - a greyish, greenish blue. I had planned on going much darker but it didn't look that great. I suppose because it's quite a dark little passage already.  I really, really wanted to make the skirting boards white. Think how cool that would look! But as the rest of the flat has white walls I thought it would be rather a waste. I like the dark stain against the white.
I also painted the book case. Bad lighting resulted in not the best of photos but you get the idea.  : )

PS- The blue scrunchy seen in various positions on the floor is a cat toy, just in case you think I like to fling it around. ;-P

Shelter from the storm

I love my little palm in the late afternoon. The pale winter sun on those leaves and the gorgeous, soft shadows.

A week of concert chaos ends in the best way possible....being forced to stay inside and recoup while the Cape of Storms lives up to it's name. I've compiled a new car cd (the new Calexico cd ROCKS!), finished off Debbie's birthday present (hoorah) and worked on another pic from the coastal drive I took a few weeks ago. Deb's bluebird of happiness. The words twirling around the bird's head are from Somewhere over the Rainbow, one of her favourite songs. Hope she likes it.

And now, while the storm continues to rage outside, I shall fix myself a little drink and get started on a brand new canvas... ;-P
Cheers!

Orange you glad?

The highlight of my day was spotting these in the grocery store and deciding they'd make a good subject. I raced home, kicked off my shoes, unpacked the groceries and spent some time with my bum in the air trying to think like an assassin when I squeezed the trigger. They say the secret to taking a steady shot is to breathe like a marksman taking a shot. Which means not breathing at all for a bit.

The light was bad and it's probably not a very good shot but in the spirit of posting more often here it is.
Anyways, I've always liked that muted, slightly soft still life look.
A bit like these polaroid pics in flickr ;-P

PS- Those orange things (kumquats) are sour as hell and the skins (which are supposed to be edible) are awful!
Good thing they're so pretty.

Day 2

Another lazy, hazy day...queues at the bank were nicely balanced with more messing with paints and camera in the afternoon. I could get used to this.

The cute little posy was rescued from the school staff room. ;-)

A bowl of cherries

I know light flares are not desirable but I rather like this one. The cherries were R11,00 for ten. I bought three bunches. ;-)
